  • Summarise the story in your own words: is this is an example of hard news or soft news?
--> This article is about a young man, who is 22, that got stabbed after a fight near Westminster underground station. People called the police after witnessing a fight between two men. This lead to one of the men fleeing the scene and then the other one suffering from a stab wound where he then went to a residential area where he was found lying there by the police. There have been no arrests so far and the conditions the young man is in has yet to be confirmed. This is an example of hard news because it is serious news and it is an ongoing issue in London. The amount of stabbing in London has nearly reached 3 digits this year. The news values that would link to this would be continuity. You could also say it is very predictable because it has happened so many times people just expect it to happen.

  • Explain how or why this story appeals to an audience (use media terminology and theory here).
--> This story appeals to the audience because it also gives surveillance because it provides information to everyone to make sure they stay safe. This is because of the increase in the knife crime in 2018. Furthermore, you could say dependency theory as most parents and young adults rely on the media to tell them news similar to this so they know how dangerous it can become even during busy hours.- Blumer and Katz and Rokeach and DeFleur.
  • Comment on the story: to what extent does it reflect the values and ideologies of the newspaper? Is this an example of quality journalism or simply clickbait?
--> This story to some extent reflects the values and ideologies of the newspaper because it always audience to keep track of stories that are always coming. I think this is an example of clickbait because newspapers want views and if there put a story out there that relates to the public then they are more likely to get a reaction and a view out of it. Furthermore, the story is really short it only has a few lines, hence why it cannot be quality journalism because there are not enough details for it to have any quality in the story. however, because it is the type of story that audiences are going to want to know about it is quick and easy revenue for mail online to make.
