Eight children are seriously hurt after falling 30ft onto concrete following inflatable slide's collapse in front of horrified parents - but some are more worried about getting a £6 REFUND as they moan about fireworks display evacuation

  • Summarise the story in your own words: is this is an example of hard news or soft news?
--> This story is about an inflatable slide that was on a firework display and ended up throwing eight children on the slide 30ft up in the sky and then hitting concrete ground. Woking Fireworks have apologies for everything and have said they will be sorting everything out including refunds after the incidents have been sorted. This is an example of hard news because it is serious because people and children were injured.

--> THe audience appeals that can be applied would be personal relationship From Blumler and Katz uses and gratification theory. This is because all the parents were effected in some way about there child being hurt. Another point that could be applied could be survellience because it provides information about what happen and why Woking Fireworks were cancelled.
  • Comment on the story: to what extent does it reflect the values and ideologies of the newspaper? Is this an example of quality journalism or simply clickbait?

--> This story does not reflect the ideologies of the newspaper because they are a left wing newspaper and are less likely to report on stories like this. 
This can be seen as quality journalism because they going into detail and it something that can be seen as serious.
