MIGRAIN: October Assessment.

'MIGRAIN October assessment learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

- WWW: Clear writing, with some explanations of media terminology.
-EBI: Muchmore developed answers needed, especially- For example- the genre question: both theory and examples needed.

2) Read the mark scheme for this assessment carefully. Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.
- Questions 1- Use Barthe and Propp and examples from theory.

- Question 2- Use media terminology and examples
- Question 3- Use Theories and examples
- Question 4- Go into the details of the poster and analyze specifics and use theories.

3) Read this exemplar response from one of the Y12s (one of the best, which is a strong B grade). Identify at least one potential point that you missed out on for each question in the assessment.

  • Question 1 - "the prop of the gun held by the young male on the poster indicates that there may be an element of violence or conflict throughout Ill Manors".
  • Question 2 - "however in figure 1, using a white male and depicting him run down, estate style is is quite atypical of who audiences usually associate these locations with".
  • Question 3 - "Media producers may find genre important in the production of different media texts. This is because by utilizing key aspects of the genre that have proven to be enjoyed by audiences, it is more likely for media texts to be more successful".
  • Question 4 - "The mise-en-scene of this poster enables this positive hegemonic reading to be made".
4) Did you get any media terminology or theory wrong in the assessment? Make a note of it here for future revision, including theories/terminology that you could have used but didn't.
Throughout the second question, I mixed up the words connote and denote.

5) Identify your strongest question. Why did you do better on this question?

My strongest question would have to be question 2, as I scored the highest marks in relation to the maximum amount of marks that could be awarded. This reason I think I did better on this question is because is was the topic that I remembered and understood the most.

6) Identify your weakest question. Why did you score lower on this particular task?
- Question 4. This is because I didn't have time to answer the question. Furthermore, I need to add example into the question.
7) Re-write your weakest answer in full. Use the mark scheme to identify anticipated content you can add to your response and make sure your typed re-draft is a top-level answer.

Question 1:

Equilibrium in when there is a state of harmony. In Figure 1, you could say the equilibrium is the copy which is written at the top " we are all products of our environment." This might suggest that at this point everyone is equal and there is no conflict. This shows equilibrium because it gives a sense of peace in the area.

Dis-equilibrium is when a climax happens and it leads to things going downhill. Figure 1, shows the background bring all dark and some sort of storm is going to happen. This might mean that there is some sort of criminal on the lose. Which could also be concluded that someone is going to get hurt. An example could be Propp, you could say his idea of a villain on the lose could be linked to this.

New Equilibrium is when everything goes back to a state of harmony. Figure 1, shows the image of the man holding a gun. This might suggest that he saved the day. This could also mean he hurt someone. You could infer that he is some sort the hero and villain. This shows new equilibrium because the man shooting someone might have brought the thing back to normal.
