Research
Create a blogpost called 'Magazine practical task research' and complete the following tasks:
1) Use your lesson notes on magazine genres and conventions to view a range of potential magazine covers. Create a shortlist of three potential magazines and embed an example front cover from each one.
2) Select your chosen magazine to create a new edition for and explain the thinking behind your choice.
Out of the three magazines i choose this magazine because it something that is not represented in the media. Therefore, presenting black women in a a brand that usually does not present black women is stepping out of the norm that only white people are the main cover of magazines. Also, diversity is always something that attracts people to pick up the magazine and actually read it.
3) Find three different front covers for your chosen magazine and embed them in your blogpost. Analyse the fonts, colours and typical design. What is the language or writing style? How are the cover lines presented? You need to become an expert in the design and construction of this magazine and its branding.
Elle magazines used bold enough fonts so that people are intrigued and are able to read the typography on the cover. However, they make sure that the main person who is modelling for the cover is shown and is been able to be seen. Furthermore, the writing style is direct and addresses the audience so that they feel apart of the brand. The cover lines are presented with strap lines and short phrases so that people would like to read more.
Elle magazine used more the four colours showing a difference in this magazines, this is because they usually stick to 3 colours but where it is important for example where is says beauty and Beyonces' name they put a more brighter colour so that it stands out. The main picture used of Beyonce is very provocative and allows people to see this as a goals in the sense of beauty and body. The language used is very pro feminism and supports women wearing make up and standing up to feminism and showing black women as a representation as that. the cover line are straight forward and give women a sense of what beauty is.
Elle magazine design this magazine in way so that Rihanna stands out because she is in yellow and it attracts the audience. The colours around Rihanna are very monochrome allowing the main image to stand out. The language used is very seductive with words such as 'love' used. Furthermore, the way she is presented is very seductive as well. This might not only attract women but attract men as they will sexualise with the image and the words beings used. The cover line are very small meaning people are actually going to have pick up and read the magazine.

1) Plan your main flash - this is the main cover story that links to your central image.
--> My main cover story will be the picture of two different types of black girls showing off natural beauty
2) Plan the image you will need for the cover - model, costume, make-up, lighting etc. At this point, simply describe the image you need to capture.
3) Write the cover lines and any additional text you need for your magazine cover.
4) Sketch out your cover on plain A4 paper using your written planning. Take a photo of your sketch and embed it in your blogpost.
