  • Summarise the story in your own words: is this is an example of hard news or soft news?
--> This article is about 6 cabinet members who have insisted that they will resigned if Theresa May agrees with any trade deals that still connects the EU and UK together. They have made it clear the UK is still trading with the EU then they will step down. Theresa May has been put under a huge amount of pressure with the trade deals and Brexit. The public and MP's are still unsure on whether on not she will be leaving the table with a trade deal or not. This is an example of hard news this is because it is about politics and current affairs going on.
  • Explain how or why this story appeals to an audience (use media terminology and theory here).
--> The audience pleasures shown in this article in surveillance from Blumer and Katz uses and gratifications theory. This is because this article provides a lot of information on the ongoing negotiations of the Brexit deals. The news value shown is familiarity because the audience can relate to the story due to the fact that it is happening in the UK. Another news value given would be negativity because if all the cabinet members resign that means Theresa May has to step down. Therefore, meaning someone else has to lead the Brexit negotiations.
  • Comment on the story: to what extent does it reflect the values and ideologies of the newspaper? Is this an example of quality journalism or simply clickbait?

--> This reflects the values and ideologies of the newspaper because they make sure we are kept up to date with current affair and politics. This is an example of quality journalism because it provides the audience with information needed and the story is not short or used for entertainment purposes hence the reason it cannot be clickbait.
